Competencies

Students must take the Cybersecurity courses in the following sequence, starting with the first two courses in their first year, as the learning builds on each previous course.

CYBERSECURITY - CYBERSECURITY A

Prerequisites: None

This class is for students starting their journey in the cybersecurity field. Students will understand key security paradigms, terminology, and mindset. Students will also have a keen awareness of the importance of security and the threats to a business when security procedures are not followed. Students should be willing to teach others about security concerns while developing the investigative and implementations skills necessary to succeed in the field and have an aptitude and desire to learn more. It is a “hand-on” class and much of the work is completed independently. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their accomplishments by participating in Business Professionals of America (BPA) Competitions.

CYBERSECURITY - IT FUNDAMENTALS B

The TestOut© IT Fundamentals Pro certification measures an examinee's understanding of foundational concepts related to computer hardware and software, networking, databases, programming, information systems, and data security. It is a “hand-on” class and much of the work is completed independently. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their accomplishments by participating in Business Professionals of America (BPA) Competitions.

CYBERSECURITY ADVANCED - NETWORK+

Prerequisites: IT Fundamentals B

The TestOut© Network Pro certification measures an examinee's ability to perform tasks commonly performed by IT network professionals, including systems administrators, network administrators, network engineers and related careers. The core responsibilities of these job roles typically revolve around the management of hardware and software networking components and include IP configuration, setting up wireless and wired networks, managing networks, basic network security, software updates, hardware upgrades and network protocols. IT network professionals must also master fundamental computer support and maintenance which are covered in TestOut’s PC Pro certification exam. It is a “hand-on” class and much of the work is completed independently. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their accomplishments by participating in Business Professionals of America (BPA) Competitions.

CYBERSECURITY ADVANCED - SECURITY+

The TestOut Security Pro certification measures an examinee's ability to perform tasks commonly performed by IT security professionals such as network and systems administrators and IT security specialists. These professionals are typically responsible for helping to implement and maintain security protocols and best practices. Passing the TestOut Security Pro Certification means you are capable of implementing layered security through group policy objects, access control lists, wireless and wired local area network security measures, and workstation and mobile device security measures. It is a “hand-on” class and much of the work is completed independently. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their accomplishments by participating in Business Professionals of America (BPA) Competitions.

CYBERSECURITY ADVANCED – ETHICAL HACKER

The TestOut Ethical Hacker Pro certification measures an examinee's ability to perform tasks commonly performed by IT security professionals such as network and systems administrators and IT security specialists. These professionals are typically responsible for helping to implement and maintain security protocols and best practices. Passing the TestOut Ethical Hacker Pro Certification means you are capable of implementing layered security through group policy objects, access control lists, wireless and wired local area network security measures, and workstation and mobile device security measures. It is a “hand-on” class and much of the work is completed independently. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their accomplishments by participating in Business Professionals of America (BPA) Competitions.

CYBERSECURITY ADVANCED – LINUX+

Prerequisites: Ethical Hacker

The TestOut Linux Pro Certification measures an examinee's ability to perform tasks commonly performed by IT professionals who work with a version of the Linux operating system. Linux training is beneficial in a variety of environments for a large number of IT careers and job descriptions. Such professionals include network and systems administrators, data center support specialists, senior support specialists, and security specialists. Real-world job tasks include managing hardware and software components, managing networks, managing users and file systems, setting up new systems, and general proficiency with the Linux command line. It is a “hand-on” class and much of the work is completed independently. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their accomplishments by participating in Business Professionals of America (BPA) Competitions.

CYBERSECURITY ADVANCED – ROUTING & SWITCHING

Prerequesites: Linux+

The TestOut Routing and Switching Pro certification exam measures the ability to work with Cisco routing and switching devices as an IT professional. For routing, these tasks include IP routing implementation, OSPF routing configuration, access control list configuration, wireless configuration, DHCP server configuration, NAT configuration, router security, and security measure implementation. For switching, tasks include switch setup and configuration, switch Interface Configuration, VLAN configuration, TCP/IP configuration, spanning tree configuration, interVLAN routing, switch security, and EtherChannel configuration. It is a “hand-on” class and much of the work is completed independently. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their accomplishments by participating in Business Professionals of America (BPA) Competitions.

CYBERSECURITY ADVANCED – CYBERDEFENSE PRO

It’s important for organizations to be able to defend against ever increasing attacks against traditional solutions like firewalls and antivirus software. That’s why an analytics-based approach is now more important than ever in the IT security industry. We have developed a new cybersecurity course and certification that covers Network defense and align to CompTIA CySA+ to help IT educators equip and validate their students with these valuable, in-demand skills. It is a “hand-on” class and much of the work is completed independently. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their accomplishments by participating in Business Professionals of America (BPA) Competitions.
