PICTURE RETAKES
Picture retake day is this Friday, October 9th. Geskus Photography will be here in the morning for picture retakes. Virtual students are welcome to come anytime before 11:15. If you did not get your picture taken on the first day of school, please plan to have your picture taken.

DUAL ENROLLMENT
Reminder!  Students interested in Dual Enrollment must reach out to Mrs. Hawthorne at kikki.hawthorne@hassk12.org     Also, your completed Dual Enrollment CONTRACT forms are due to Mrs. Hawthorne by November 6th. That is the last day to sign up for Spring 2027 Dual Enrollment courses.  (11/6)

SCHEDULES FOR SEMESTER 2
Students are able to view their 2nd Semester schedule in PowerSchool. If you have an error in your schedule, the deadline to submit your Semester 2 Schedule Change Request form is November 24, at 3:00pm. College Application Workshops
Seniors, if you need assistance in filling out college applications, writing college essays, scholarship applications or anything college related,  join Ms. Herbert, Mrs. Hawthorne and Mrs. Cole in their office, B105, during lunch on Thursdays to get some work done! (10/30)

FAFSA NIGHT
Seniors, mark your calendars for the FAFSA Night coming up on October 28 from 5:00-7:00pm!  If you need help filling out the FAFSA, we will have FAFSA specialists here that are ready to assist you with any questions or concerns. Helpful items to bring include your personal information and laptop/chromebook (we will also have a few Chromebooks available to use).  If you would like a checklist of items to gather before you begin, feel free to pick one up in the Counseling Department or click HERE.  Feel free stop in anytime between 5:00-7:00pm.  (10/28)

VISIT TO IONIA COUNTY COLLEGE FAIR
Attention Juniors & Seniors! Sign-ups are open for our visit to the Ionia County College Fair, taking place at Ionia High School on October 21. We will be taking a bus in the morning from 8:00am-11:15am, and returning to HHS for lunch. If you are interested, please sign up in the Counseling Office B105 and pick up a Permission Slip! The deadline to sign-up is October 19th. Grades, attendance, tardies and behavior are all factors in a students ability to attend. Questions? See Ms. Herbert.  (10/19)

College Month Celebration
The HHS Counseling Department is announcing our incentive for FAFSA completion! Any HHS Senior who completes their FAFSA and provides proof of completion will be entered to win a $50 Visa gift card! See the two steps below:

·  Step 1: Students must provide either a PRINTED SCREENSHOT with a DATE STAMP and NAME of submitter for their FAFSA from the studentaid.gov website. You can also email renee.herbert@hassk12.org the screen shot that says you completed your FAFSA.

·  Step 2: For the month of October, students can bring their proof to the counseling office in room B105. The drawings (10 gift cards) will take place at our college month celebration on Friday, October 30th from 10:30-11:15am in the cafeteria. (10/29)

9th grade SOS Classroom Lesson
Hastings High School is utilizing the SOS Signs of Suicide Portal as part of our school wide Suicide prevention efforts.  To preview the information on this free educational site regarding warning signs and risk factors for youth suicide and to learn more about the key message all students will learn: ACT (Acknowledge, Care, Tell), visit the SOS Signs of suicide website. https://mindwise.org/parents/ 

All 9th Grade students will be experiencing a classroom lesson over very similar material on October 12th in their Science classes. If you are interested in talking with Mrs. Coltson, the school counselor, about the Signs of Suicide program, please feel free to contact her at 269-945-6136, or dawn.coltson@hassk12.org

FINE ARTS

Winter Musical
What is the Musical this year? Come to the HPAC at 3:05 on Wednesday October 7th to find out at the Musical Launch Party! The presentation will last only 5 mins. Audition music and information will be available there, but you can always get it from Mr. Moore in the Choir Room at your convenience. Everyone is welcome to come find out about our show this year!

KEY CLUB
Attention key club member, just a reminder that we have our meeting this week on Wednesday at 7:20am. Bring a friend! Students are always welcome to join at any time. 

Teachers, the NHS recommendation Google Form was sent out on Friday. Please have recommendations done by this Friday, October 9th. (10/6)

YIG
The City to Students applications are due on October 14th. This includes the parent consent form and the online application that was sent to your email. You will also need teacher recommendations which have been sent to teacher emails.

- Athletes are required to have a Final Forms account in order to participate in a sport.  This account must be set up by the parent/guardian.  If you already have an account, please make sure to update your information and upload a current physical.

RESULTS from coaches

Tennis
The Boys Tennis Team traveled to Lakewood to finish up a positive season. Owen Boge wrapped up his six year Hastings tennis career with a hard fought match and finished his season 9-3.
