Junior standout Caroline Randall made history this past Friday at the 85th Annual Hastings Saxons Invitational, one of Michigan’s oldest and most competitive high school meets.
Caroline shattered a school record that had stood since 1993 in the 1600 meters, beating it by 6 seconds.
And she didn’t stop there.
She went on to break her own school record in the 3200 meters, dropping a blazing 10:55 and going sub-11 once again.

Join us this evening in the Hastings Middle School Commons for a community forum focused on our district’s facility and infrastructure needs. The session will be led by consultants from GMB, and we encourage all community members to attend and share their input.
Following the forum, the school board will convene for its regularly scheduled meeting.

The 5th Annual Follies, presented by Hastings Choirs, was an outstanding evening of entertainment last night!
Students showcased their talents through a variety of musical performances, thoughtfully interwoven with lighthearted and engaging skits. The range of creativity highlighted the strength of our Saxon performers!

Spring Break looked a little different for our tech department. Throughout the week, our tech department didn’t slow down. From closing out tickets and repairing devices to updating computers and refreshing inventory across the district, the team kept everything running smoothly behind the scenes.
And of course, they found a way to keep it fun. Rocking their shades and sipping on ice-cold Shirley Temples, the team brought a little Spring Break spirit to the workday. 😎
Awesome work, team!

We have another group of VERY deserving students who were given the Young Citizenship Award by the Hastings Kiwanis Club for the month of March. Great job, everyone!

Every four years, the Hastings Marching Band takes their talents on the road, heading to Universal Studios in Orlando for a special performance. This year, the Saxons made the journey and proudly marched on Sunday, representing Hastings hundreds of miles from home. Outstanding job!

We'll see you on Monday!

Senior Gracie Wilson put a pen to paper last week and signed her letter to compete in cheer at Adrian College next year. We look forward to following your collegiate career in the sport!

Saxons have each other’s backs! 💙
In anticipation of state testing (i.e. M-STEP, PSAT, etc.), students of all ages across our district took time to write letters of encouragement to one another. Every student will receive uplifting words from a fellow Saxon, reminding them they are supported and ready to succeed.
Good luck...you’ve got this!

The Saxons had a great week at the state wrestling championships. Hastings took six qualifiers and finished the weekend with three all-state wrestlers!
In her freshman debut, Riley Furrow finished the weekend in 5th place. She becomes the first lady Saxon to place at state as a freshman. Along the way, she also became the first girl to record 40 wins.
Hunter Sutfin picked up his second all-state honors as a sophomore, earning a 6th place finish. Hunter also passed the season record for takedowns with 185 (previous record 175, Robby Slaughter). He also tied the school record for wins in a season with 54 (tied with Coach Jason Slaughter).
Sara Baker took home 8th place and all-state honors at her first time at Ford Field. She finishes out her senior year with a 30-plus win season.
Jace Acker, Abby Frazer, and Alexia Owen had a good weekend, but came up just short of the medal stand. Abby and Jace took home a win each for the weekend, which put them in the top 12 of their weight classes.

Saxon girls varsity basketball is in Haslett tonight to take on Lakewood in the first round of the district tournament. Good luck, ladies!

Thirteen Hastings High School students attended the Michigan Youth in Government Early Spring Conference from February 26 to March 1 in Lansing. Nine students, Meredith Ansorge, Khloe Baker, Eleanor Clark, Madison Killian, Ava Patterson, Isabella Strimback, and Malena Tomaszewska were a part of the mock legislature, where they wrote their own bills that were then debated by other students from around the state.
Over the course of three days, a total of over eleven hundred bills were submitted and debated, first in legislative committees and then in the full legislature. Of those bills, 52 were signed by the Youth Governor, many of which were initially vetoed and had to go through a veto-override process. Meredith Ansorge, Madison Killian, and Malena Tomaszewska’s bills were all signed by the Youth Governor.
Students, Petra Foster and Mya Luna, participated as lobbyists at the conference, working to pass ballot proposals. Mya was awarded head lobbyist for her firm. Remington Jerzyk, Angelia McGregor, Harrison Thomas, and Alex Timmers were involved in the National Issues Forum at the conference. Students in this program submitted proposals on national concerns and debated them through a three-level process.
Angelia McGregor was a committee chair and was responsible for leading groups of other students through the debate process. Alex Timmers' proposal was debated in all three levels and passed in the final General Assembly. Additionally, every summer, MYIG sends a delegation of students from across the state to the Conference on National Affairs (CONA) in Black Mountain, N.C. Ava Patterson was nominated to attend the conference this summer, and Meredith Ansorge was nominated as an alternate.

Our varsity boys basketball team picked up a district quarterfinals victory over Lakewood tonight! It's now on to face Lansing Sexton on Wednesday in the semifinals!

The competitive cheer postseason kicked over the weekend, and the Lady Saxons brought the energy to the mat at Gull Lake!
Facing a competitive field of 14 teams, they delivered a season-high score of 724.88, finishing the day in a hard-fought 5th place. While the final standings weren’t exactly what they hoped for, their strength, determination and heart were on full display.
From hitting personal milestones and sharpening new skills to lifting each other up through every single rep, this team showed what it truly means to represent a championship program.
Congrats on a great season, Saxons!

Please remember there will be no school on Friday, February 20, and Monday, February 23 for mid-winter break.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the generous parents of our HHS students for the wonderful meal provided during parent/teacher conferences. Thank you, also, to Nicki Haight and her hard work organizing it.
Conference days are long, and many of our staff members travel a considerable distance to and from school. Having a meal available makes an incredible difference when there isn’t enough time to go home or pick something up and return.
The kindness shown to our staff did not go unnoticed!

Students from both our Middle School and High School attended the Barry County Chamber & Economic Development Alliance's Career Fest at the Barry County Expo Center today.
They connected with dozens of employers representing a wide range of industries, exploring career pathways and learning about opportunities available after high school or college.
It was a great event filled with meaningful conversations, insights and ... free stuff!
