Northeastern Elementary construction

There’s a buzz of progress around Hastings this summer as major construction projects continue across multiple school buildings, most of them made possible through the passage of a 2023 bond proposal.

From window replacements and restroom remodels to roof work and playground upgrades, crews are making strides to enhance learning environments for students and staff alike.

Window Work and Masonry Repairs at Northeastern and Southeastern

Crews are hard at work at Southeastern and Northeastern Elementary, replacing old windows with new, energy-efficient ones. Alongside that, masons are repairing deterioration that has formed over the years in the limestone blocks under these windows, ensuring a strong base for the new installations.

Not only does a project like this help enhance the aesthetics of the building and increase comfort, but the energy efficiency of the windows can also unlock future cost savings.

Restroom renovations underway

Restroom remodeling at Central, Northeast, and Southeastern Elementary is progressing smoothly. Bathrooms that were recently remodeled by our maintenance staff are getting some new fixtures, while other bathrooms have been torn down to the studs and will be completely overhauled. These updates will lead to more modern, efficient, and user-friendly restroom spaces.

New roof taking shape at Central Elementary

The roofing project at Central is moving along smoothly. Contractors have been focusing on a complex multi-layer section of the roof, which is often the trickiest area. Then, another contractor will remove old shingles and install new ones.

Playground improvements on tap at Central

Families at Central Elementary can also look forward to exciting playground updates. Excavation for a new pavilion concrete pad is ongoing. In the days following, fencing will be adjusted, and basketball posts will be removed to prepare the space for upgrades.

The district is also coordinating with contractors to schedule asphalt work for the basketball court. Meanwhile, a concept drawing for new playground equipment has been received, and once the final estimate is approved, installation planning will begin.

Major upgrades at Hastings High School

At the high school, major renovation work is happening in the athletic areas. New concrete footings for the locker rooms are nearly complete, and masons are actively working to raise wall heights as part of the full renovation effort. Demolition of the existing athletic commons is moving along well. Meanwhile, window removal on the south side of the building is moving quickly. As each old window comes out, the opening is immediately boarded up to ensure safety and security.

All these updates reflect a strong commitment to providing top-quality facilities for all Hastings students and staff. Stay tuned — we can’t wait to show you the finished spaces once the work is complete!
